A Realistic Style Guide for Your Newborn or Family Session-

One of the most common questions I get asked is, "What should we wear for our session?" And I totally get it! Choosing the right outfits can feel overwhelming, especially when you're already juggling newborn life or coordinating a busy family. As your photographer, I'm here to help you every step of the way and that includes helping you feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera. So, lets make outfit planning easy, fun and stress free!

Whether you're a new mama prepping for a newborn shoot or a family getting ready for golden hour magic, this guide will walk you through how to choose outfits that not only photograph beautifully but feel like you!

Keep it Simple with Neutrals & Soft Colors

When in doubt, you can never go wrong with a soft, neutral color palette. Think creamy whites, muted earth tones, dusty pinks, gentle blues and warm beiges. These shades photograph beautifully in natural light and let your family's connection take center stage. Plus, they're timeless so your photos will look just as beautiful years from now.

Let Texture Do the Talking

Rather than bold patterns, focus on texture. Cozy knits, waffle fabrics, soft cotton and linen all add depth and movement to your photos. A delicate floral or a soft plaid here and there is totally fine.. just aim for subtle details over busy prints!

Coordinate, Not Matching

You don't need to dress everyone in the exact same outfit. In fact, your photos will feel much more natural when you mix and match pieces that coordinate instead of match. Start with one outfit you love- maybe it's a dress for yourself- and build the rest of the family's outfits around those tones. The goal is to flow together, not be identical.

Dress for Comfort

Comfort always comes first. If a shirt is itchy or a baby romper is stiff, it'll show... and your session should feel like an experience you enjoy, not endure. Go for clothes that allow for movement, cuddles and play. Barefoot babies? YES, please!
